Located near Gate 19, the 4,456 square feet Heart of Austin has a 9-foot neon lighted guitar spinning above the area and seating for 190 patrons. “Live music is in Austin’s roots and culture, we work hard to make it part of the Austin passenger experience. I believe that we have one of the best airport music programs in the world and have now taken it to the next level,” said Michael Pennock, Austin airport music coordinator.
The music program at the Austin airport has hosted over 12,270 live music performances since 1999, with the Asleep at the Wheel stage being the largest of the five performance areas in the airport. Construction in the 9-gate terminal expansion will add another three live music performance spaces to the airport, which currently averages 25 live shows per week.
